Types of SEO: On Page vs. Off Page and Why You Need Both

Did you know that there are two main types of SEO?

When it comes down to it, you’re going to need both if your goal is to get ahead on the SERPs. What you do on your page, and off of it, are the biggest drivers in making your website visible near the top of the Google rankings.

If you’re ready to learn about the differences between on-page and off-page SEO, and why you need them both to get ahead, then read on.

On Page vs. Off Page and Why You Need Both

On-Page SEO

Your on-page SEO has entirely to do with what’s going on with your website.

This includes the content, the keywords within the content, optimization of your photos, and everything else.

It even includes page metrics like a high CTR and lower bounce rate.

Your on-page efforts are usually easy to get a good hold on. If you do the following then you’re usually in good hands:

  • Include your keyword a few times
  • Make sure images are optimized for loading
  • Have deep content
  • Keep your page loading speed up

As long as all of that is in order then most of your on-page efforts are complete.

Keyword research is a big subset of your on-page efforts, and knowing how to do it can make all of the difference. Without the right keywords in place, you’re destined to flounder around blindly.

There are a lot of different little things you can do to tweak this, but that’s all the big stuff right there.

Off-Page SEO

Your off-page SEO is a much more complex manner on the other hand, and in a lot of ways, it’s much more important.

The key to most of your off-page efforts is always going to be backlinks. When a page links back to yours it can help you rise through the rankings.

Not all backlinks are created equally. There are a lot of “shady neighborhoods” roaming the internet and some of these places can even hurt your rankings rather than helping them.

Basically: you’ll start to acquire a reputation similar to wherever you’re most commonly being linked to from.

Ideally, a great piece of content would always garner organic backlinks in a hurry, but in practice, it usually requires a concentrated effort in order to get the ball rolling.

Even great content producers often rely on outside agencies to bring in the backlinks they need. Click here to see an example of a guest post handling service.

Off-page SEO is a never-ending struggle for many people, but if you’re the best in your niche then chances are that your efforts are going to snowball as time goes on.

The Types of SEO

These two types of SEO essentially define all of your efforts at making it higher up on Google’s rankings. Without some thought, you’re going to sit, floundering, in the back pages of Google with no traffic in sight.

When you’ve combined them together into a comprehensive strategy, however, you’re looking at a bright future for your website.
